AUMG Sponsors the First-Ever African Icon category at the MOBO Awards 2005

Africa Unite Music Group will be sponsoring the first-ever African category at the 2005 MOBO Awards show. The “African Icon” category will honour the best of African music from the continent.

Since its launch in 1996, the MOBO’s has grown from a niche following to become a dominant force in music and culture here in the UK. MOBO is more than music, year on year; they have celebrated and supported music of black origin.

Official voting lines will be activated to the African public from the 10th of August- 31st of August 2005. All short listed artists will be informed of the results soon after and the 3 artists to receive the highest votes will be invited to the award ceremony on the 22nd of September in London, where the winner will be presented with a MOBO statuette.

To celebrate this landmark, AUMG will be hosting an After Party in London for the three nominees. Supporting acts from around Africa will also be flown in to London. The night will be packed with live performances, the best DJs and fantastic music.
